Africa's Cape buffalo is one of my favorite animals, and I've hunted them a lot, but the best buffalo hunt I've ever been on was sharing daughter Brittany's first! David Villec's Trophy Portraits offer a unique and lasting way to capture the memory of a great moment in the field, in this case a happy young hunter and a very proud father!

Photos are wonderful, but there is no photograph that can hope to capture and portray what a painting can; there is something timeless, traditional and pure about a painting. Still, it takes an artist of great skill to put to canvas those elements so lacking in a photograph. In my opinion, David Villec is one of the very best artists now working in North America, one of the few artists who can paint wildlife and people. He painted my son Branlin and I with a lion I'd taken in Tanzania and while the photos of that memory are stored in my computer, the painting hangs in a place of honor right above the actual mounted lion in my trophy room.
My digital photographs of the lion will likely remain in cyberspace, but David's painting is destined to become an heirloom to be passed down to my son and hopefully to his son and beyond.

Thank you for completeing such a wonderful portrayal of a very special moment in a hunters life. Your painting has captured the scene very accurately, in both detail and colour. The hunter, Lucky Turner, took this huge stag in 2005, while hunting with his family in New Zealand. Record Book scoring of the animal is SCI 492, which would secure it a place in the "Top 10" Red Stags in the world. A quality piece of artwork such as this will make a fine centerpiece, in the hunters home, or in our luxury hunting lodge. Congratulations on creating this wonderful work.

I am so pleased! I’m glad you enjoyed painting (it). When my sister and I visited your booth last SCI, I really got excited about this gift for Nick (my husband). Then the trip to New Zealand and the Gold Medal Tahr! Boy, we both we excited! I decided this was the one for you to paint.

Thank you for the beautiful painting. It will be a living memory as well as a mutual testament: to our hunting adventures and your artistic talent.

First off, great paintings!! I was impressed the first time I saw one of your paintings at the SCI convention and am more impressed now! For me, besides being a beautiful "living memory" of a special moment on a hunt, your paintings represent the perfect balance between realism and artistic interpretation. In my opinion, your ability to somehow capture and then put to canvas, nuances of light, is both impressive and wonderous. Would like that I'd have been born with such talent! Frankly I'm a little jealous!
Although it is little known, in a former life, when I dealt for a decade in Art an Antiquities, I seldom found an artist with the ability to realize human facial expressions; it is perhaps the most ellusive of artistic demands, and yet you have done it. Your paintings attest to your ability. Your paintings "live" and that is the highest compliment I can pay to an artist.

David your attention to detail, authenticity and realism, coupled with your creative touch have heightened my Tanzania lion moment to a lifelong memory even greater than what it was before. Very rarely with art does a sequel surpass the original, but that is exactly the case in this point. My sincerest thanks to you for your artistic accomplishment.
